Troubleshooting

Safe Mode

If Blabble isn't starting properly, launch it in Safe Mode:

  1. Quit Blabble completely.
  2. Hold the Option key while opening Blabble.
  3. A recovery dialog appears with options to reset data or start fresh.
Tip — Safe Mode does not delete your original messages — it only resets Blabble's internal databases. Your sources can be re-imported afterward.

iMessage not loading

  • Check that you granted folder access when creating the source. Open Preferences → Blabbles, select the source, and verify folder permissions. Click Grant access to re-authorize if needed.
  • Verify that the Messages app has been used on this Mac at least once.
  • Check that the database path is correct in Preferences → Blabbles.

WhatsApp not detected

  • WhatsApp Desktop must be installed from the Mac App Store (not the website download) and linked to your phone.
  • Open WhatsApp and ensure it has synced recent messages before adding it as a source.
  • If using a backup source, ensure the backup file is accessible and not corrupted.

Mail not refreshing

  • The Mail app must be running for Blabble to read its database.
  • Check that your mail accounts are configured and syncing in the Mail app.
  • Grant Blabble Automation permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

Missing attachments

Attachments may not have been downloaded to your Mac yet. Open the original messaging app and let it download the files first.

AI agent not responding

  • Ensure at least one AI provider is configured in Preferences → AI.
  • Verify your API key is valid and has available credit/quota.
  • For local models, check that the server is running (e.g. ollama serve for Ollama, or launch LM Studio and start the local server).
  • Check your internet connection if using a cloud-based provider.

Permissions issues

  1. Open Blabble → Preferences → Permissions to see the status of each permission.
  2. Click any permission showing as denied to open System Settings.
  3. Toggle the permission for Blabble, then restart the app.

Crash on launch

If Blabble crashed previously, a crash report dialog may appear on the next launch. You can share the crash log to help us fix the issue. If crashes persist, try Safe Mode (hold Option at launch) to reset the internal database.

A pill or button appears cut off

If a pill, icon, or button in a toolbar appears clipped or partially hidden, it means the bar supports horizontal scrolling. Swipe left or right (or use a trackpad two-finger scroll) to reveal the remaining items. This applies to the desks toolbar, source type icons, message filters, LLM provider pills, and agent conversation lists.
